Rewrite-a-fic is a low-commitment, multi-fandom event dedicated to rewriting a fic you've written before!

The goal of this event is to rewrite something you've done before, a one-shot or a longer fic. 

Event rules:
The work written has to be yours originally.
Original characters are allowed!
The fic you are rewriting has to be at least one and a half years old for it to be eligible to be rewritten.
The original fic can but doesn't have to already be posted somewhere for everyone to see. If you've never posted the original and don't want to do so, there is no pressure for that!
The length of the fanfic doesn't matter: it can be as long or as short as you want it to be! It doesn't have to match the word count of the original fic either!
There are no content restrictions! Just please use proper content warning when posting the work in the community!
Using generative AI to create a fic is strictly prohibited.

Is there any problem with participating with a rewrite I've been planning for a while but still have not actually written? Or do I need to plan and do something from now on?

Nope! You can participate as long as the fic is posted within the event period! Doesn't matter when you stared writing the rewrite or thought of doing it!

Oh, seems fun! When you say "rewrite" a fic, is it keeping the plot and scenes, but rewriting them with your evolved style or more taking the plot and rewriting it differently, changing, deleting or adding scenes/characters?

The primary idea is to write the same fic with evolved style, but you are not limited to only that. If you feel like the fic would benefit from changing or removing something, you can go in that direction.

I have a fic I was thinking of rewriting but as of this moment the fic is two months away from being one and a half years old. Can I wait until the fic is one and a half years old to post it here or should I choose something that’s older for this fest?

You can wait for it to be one and a half years old! As long as the fic itself is posted after that point in time and within the event time in the community, it's eligible for it.

It's recommended to finish the new work fully, though not necessary.

Hello! If the fic in question was a one-shot and I wanted to make it a multi-chapter, while still rewriting the original one-shot, just adding more to it and maybe giving the story a wider scope, is that allowed?

Is wholly original work okay? I have an original m/m story I wrote for NaNoWriMo in 2003 that I was planning on tackling with a 'this didn't age well' rewrite this year anyway.

This is such a great idea. I've always wanted to rewrite one of my fics to improve it and fix some serious continuity errors, but not to remix it, per se. Is that okay? Many of the scenes will probably be the same, just hopefully written better lol

I have . . . a slew of oneshots from 2009-2010 that were once on another archive (though they aren't online any longer) but I never ported to AO3 and . . . I have them on a list to rewrite first . . . if I ever get around to them. >.> This event sounds like it would be great encouragement to tackle at least a couple of those!

At least - I assume it would be okay to do more than one?

Well, I was planning yet another revamp and streamlining of my oldest and very long-running and yet unfinished fic. It's even on my Creative Bingo for this year

The last time I've updated was in December 2013 and it was the 2nd rewrite of Chapter One…

Before that, Chapter 36 was posted in September 2012. The very first time Chapter One was posted was on October 16th, 2008. (Just looking on the time stamps and refusing to do the maths of it's age. XD)

I am planning on working on two pieces. These pieces exist on ao3 in an incomplete WIP status. Could I edit in the new chapters in place of the old vs publishing new fics with the same name?

For our event no, it should be a new published fic. If you'd like to remove the old one for whatever reason, you are free to do so! The new fic should be posted as a new project rather than editing an old one.
